I’m writing this on June 15th. So… Summer is right on top of us. How are we going to get ‘fit’ for it if it’s already here?
I’ve been in the fitness biz since 1997, and in the time since then- I’ve seen some amazing things. And, depending on your body type and weight, getting fit for summer is within your reach!
WHY would you want to get fit for Summer?
I don’t know what your experience is, but I’m hearing almost EVERYONE I know (including other instructors!) tell me that they hate swimsuit shopping, the hate wearing swimsuits, because they “feel fat”. I see them sweating it out in their long sleeves and long pants because they are so uncomfortable in their own skin they don’t want to wear shorts and tanks. And ALL those little sundresses in the stores sit on the racks or go to those teens and women in their 20’s who don’t know yet what it is to have to watch your weight.
WE have a right to those sundresses!
Now, the critical part: HOW are you going to get fit for Summer?
My suggestion is to start with the leanest part of your body. For most of us, that’s our arms. Start with something simple like lateral arm raises with 3 to 5 pound weights. Just like it sounds- lift your arms out to the side to shoulder height- hold their for 2 seconds, then bring your arms back down. Throw in some other arm moves, but definitely work the shoulders. That area will start to show improvement sometimes in as soon as a week! Alternate your work out days with cardiovascular exercise- like going on the elliptical machine at the gym or going for a run.
Ok? So go! Do it now! Are you getting up? Could you use a little more guidance and some accountability? Some people can self motivate to work out, but not many.
