Have you ever had a song get stuck in your head? You just can’t stop singing it, even if you don’t even like the song. I sing ALL the songs from the kids stations  on pandora, and even hum the tunes that my son’s toys make. If this has happened to you, then you are an impressionable human being. And guess what, we ALL are!

So if you could choose what songs get stuck in your head, would you? Of course! If it occurred to you to do so. It’s the same with your thoughts. When we want toID-10054793 change something, we tend to think that we must DO something different. That’s true, of course, but we often fail because we’ve missed a step. That’s why, when you’re trying to lose weight, that most people fail. They think “eat less/exercise more”, but it doesn’t work, does it. And why is that? Because they’re starting with their actions.

The missing step is to adjust your THOUGHTS. You must adjust your thoughts before you can make new actions stick. Almost all of your actions are on automatic pilot, controlled by your subconscious mind. It seems so simple to adjust your actions, but your subconscious mind will always steer you back to your ingrained habits.

How do you get around this? I’m going to tell you the secret that can change your life, believe it or not. The answer is: Small consistent steps over a period of time. That’s how you literally CHANGE your mind. That’s it. Plan in your actions in small bits over a stretch of 6 months to a year. Seems like a long time? It’s not, and that year is going to pass anyway.

Now for your thoughts. How do you change your thoughts? Many people don’t even go here. It doesn’t occur to them that they can change their mind, literally. How can you stop thinking junk like “I can’t do it, I don’t have enough time, I’m too tired, I’m a failure, I’ll always feel like crap, I’ll always be fat” yadda yadda. For the few people who even consider changing their minds, they get stumped here.

Think of it like this: trying to stop negative thoughts from entering your mind is like running around a dark room trying to fight the darkness. How about you just turn the light on?

And here we go full circle: just listen to a different song, so to speak. You want thoughts that are going to support your highest version of yourself, right? So create those thoughts. Make sure you make them in the present tense. Think them on purpose, and write them down. Make sure you believe they can happen, but that they are a stretch from where you are at now. Make sure they excite you. For example, “I have lost 10 pounds and I feel energetic every day!”. That’s just one example to give you an idea.

Also, you can listen to recordings of people who you find inspirational. I find a lot of great stuff on www.mindvalley.com. The more you listen to information that affects you positively, the more you will start to think like that. Just like when you find yourself singing those songs. You don’t have to worry about blocking out negative thoughts. Just keep surrounding yourself with positive influences. You can listen in your car, when you’re cleaning, shopping, commuting, walking, whenever!

To recap:

1- To change your thoughts- write out what you want to accomplish as if you have already accomplished it.

2- Listen to people and take courses that affect you positively and inspire you.

3- To change your actions- choose smalls steps and act on them consistently over a period of time.

That’s it! Follow these steps and you will change your life!
