Confidence seems to be something, much like getting fit, that everyone wants, but few are willing to do the work to achieve.
The key to gaining confidence is simple, but not easy. If it were so easy, what would be the fun in that? Let’s take on a little challenge to keep us stimulated and feeling alive.
So what’s the key? You have to be willing to feel your feelings and face your fears. These are two risks you need to take in order to gain confidence. Put like that it sounds so easy.
But what about if you find yourself in a position where you’re in a relationship you don’t want to be in? You have to face your fear, whether it is of hurting someone’s feelings (they’ll be better off, you’re not really in the relationship anyway- set them free!), or the fear of being alone (you can learn more about who you are and find a more suitable partner as a result).
Or, say, you’re on the other side of that and you just got dumped. You’re feelings are overwhelming. You feel like a fool and like everyone is looking at you like “Oh, look at her, she’s so stupid- she just got dumped”. WHY do we think this? First thing to remember is we’ve all been through it! We want to cover up our hurt feelings and pretend they don’t exist. Most empowering thing you can do is feel the feelings and let them go. Your confidence will get a nice boost.
These are just relationship examples of facing fears and feeling your feelings- to give you a general idea. But this applies to all aspects of life. Work, Spirituality, Home life, etc. Of course it includes taking care of your physical health. Honestly, if you don’t have your health, you really have nothing. So get on that. Identify and face the fears associated with getting into shape- feel the feelings and do the action anyway.
Here’s a little homework assignment:
List one challenge you are facing right now.
Imagine that you had confidence. What would you do differently?
What feelings are you afraid to feel regarding this situation?
If you could count on yourself to act in spite of fear, what could your conclusion to this situation be?
Feel the fear and do it anyway!!
